Dear Governor,
 
First, let me emphasize that this note is from a friend, not an opponent. I have worked for you, your vision and election to office for years, and have supported everything that you said you believed in.

Now, look at this legislative “pay raise.” This is pure and brutal, in-your-face corruption!

Corruption of the worst kind. These members of our “Citizen Legislature” are taking the people’s money, by force, in front of God and everybody, simply be exercising brute power and by turning a deaf ear. It is outrageous!

And, it is being done to you, the “reform” governor. They didn't dare do this to one of our old school corrupt governors. This is being done to you specifically to destroy your governorship and undermine your reform program.

You can stop it with a veto. Use the veto and be a hero of the people. Your star will continue to rise. Fail to use your veto and you accept this outrageous rape of the citizens. Fail to use your veto and you are finished politically. Your star, rather than rising on the national stage will crash and burn. You will not win a second term. You will not get your programs passed. The legislators will bully you and brush you aside from this point on.

Please don’t let that happen. We long-suffering Louisianians need a hero. Use the veto and be that hero.
