In response to Mr. Rushin’s (Craig Rushin, March 16 Opinion Page) opinion on the “Urbanization” of Ascension Parish, I feel I must set the record straight. Many of the things he fears will happen are misunderstandings of the draft Master Plan Documents or are based on fear - not facts.

For nearly 103 years First Baptist Church Gonzales has sought to be a faithful New Testament Church in Gonzales and Ascension Parish.

Sunday morning I woke up to the news that Republican Congressman Joseph Cao voted for the House health care bill. My first reaction was shock followed by disappointment.

I would like to inform the citizens of Ascension Parish about a travesty that is about to take place.

It’s for the kids. This seemed to be the battle cry of most of our elected officials when the issue of purchasing Lamar-Dixon came up.

There is a massive 2,000 page bill working through Congress right now, the purpose of which is to “reform” health care in America.

Our parish President and Council need to be commended for putting together a professional staff in Planning and Zoning.

Just about everyone knows that each year hundreds of Louisiana people are killed and thousands more are injured as a result of alcohol-related crashes.

On Saturday Oct. 17,  we’ve been asked to vote on an extension of an existing millage for our public school system.

During the 2008 Regular Legislative Session, I along with Sen. Jody Amedee, Rep. Eddie Lambert, and Rep. Elton Aubert co-authored SB644, which was signed into law as ACT695 by Gov. Bobby Jindal.

I figured it wouldn’t be long before Ascension Parish jumped on the traffic band wagon.

About a 150-200 veterans and family members of deceased and living Louisiana veterans received Louisiana Veterans Honor Medals on Sept. 16 at the Civic Center in Gonzales.
