Smith, Claude Vernell

A retired veteran of the United States Army and a resident of Darrow died at 1:25 p.m. at his residence on April 18, 2012. He was 73 and a native of Modeste. A memorial celebration was held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Hopeful Baptist Church in Darrow at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Myron Jones Sr.  He is survived by his son, Lawrence Vernell Williams (Jeanette), a brother, Lauthaught A. Delaney Sr. (Robyn), a sister, Cassandra D. Smith (Darryl Sr.), one granddaughter, Latisha Dean Breaux, other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceded in death by parents, George Smith, Josephine and John Delaney, grandparents Charles and Tempa Milton, and a sister Deloris Quinn Williams.

 He was a member of Hiram Lodge #12, F&AM and the Ascension Parish Branch of the NAACP.  His remains were donated to the Department of Health and Hospitals, Bureau of Anatomical Services in New Orleans. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Derrick Spell, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, and Amedisys Home Health Care and Hospice for their kindness and service.
