PORT VINCENT – Authorities are investigating the death of a Prairieville man found this afternoon in the Amite River.

According to Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala, the body of the man found floating in the river has been identified as 31-year-old Mike Cannon.

Cannon had been living with his brother at 44523 Hwy. 42, Prairieville and was last seen Monday night, Bacala said.

According to a family member, Cannon left the home Monday night and said that he was going down the road to go swimming, the chief deputy said.

The place where his body was found in the river was about one-quarter of a mile from the home, according to Bacala.

Sheriff's Office investigators do not suspect foul play, but an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death, Bacala said.
