Alberta LeBlanc Braud who was born in Gonzales and raised in Chenal, passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 84. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Coco, Casey Joseph
Casey Joseph Coco, 24, a lifelong resident of Ascension Parish, died on Friday, July 11, 2008, in Baton Rouge. He graduated from St. Amant High School and loved to write. He worked for Domino's and Jack in the Box in Gonzales. Memorial service and reception at Hearts Ease Family Life Center, 12112 Florida Blvd., on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m. Survived by his father and mother, Robin and Gail Braud Coco; brothers, Michael, Joseph "Rob" and Kenneth Coco; step-siblings, Kelly and Chris Haik; aunts and uncles, Eva and Dale Guedry Sr. and Kim and Jason Coco; and cousins, Dale "D.J." Jr. and Darren Guedry. Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph "Alie" and Leona Lessard Braud; and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Dorothy Martin Coco. A resident of Prairieville, she died on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008. She was 58. Visitation at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville on Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Eric Gyan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Hope Haven Cemetery on La. 30, Gonzales. She was a former member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church separated and divorced group and had been a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Altar Society.
Hall, Viola Kelly “NaNan”
A native of Laurel Hill, she died of natural causes at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Gonzales. She was 93 and a resident of Gonzales. Memorial service will be at New St. John Baptist Church Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., with Rev. Clarence Stephen officiating. Interment in New St. John Baptist Church Cemetery. She is survived by a sister, Ms. Glenora Jackson; seven grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Hall; a daughter, Louise H. Gray; her parents, Mrs. Mary Lewis; her father, Mr. Richard Kelly; and 5 siblings.

A homemaker, mother, grandmother, great, and great-grandmother, she loved her family dearly. Helen Cumberland Millie died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at her residence in Gonzales. She was 80, a native of St. Amant, and a graduate of Petal High School in Mississippi. Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. There will be visitation Saturday, at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Saturday from 8 a.m. until a service at 9 a.m. Interment will be in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Walters, Theresa Thibodeaux, and Donna Moore; four sons, Joseph D. Millien, Larry Millien, Rocklin Millien, and Ronald Millien; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joachim “Big Joe” Millien; parents, Lemuel and Gladys Wedgeworth Cumberland; and a brother, Aubry Cumberland. Pallbearers will beMichael Millien, David Millien, Jason Millien, Roy Moore, Chris Millien, and Ryan Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Walters, Robert Walters, Gonzola Briceno, and John Thibodeaux. Retired co-owner of Gonzales Tire Co. and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 85, a native of Gonzales and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Survived by wife and caregiver of 61 years, Audrey B. Smith; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Jack Page, Susan and Donald Olivier and Ellen Dunn and Scott Murphy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Suzi Smith and Steve and Grace Smith; six sisters, Catherine Ficklin, Winnie Brignac Simoneaux, Verna Ambeau, Ella Rose Berthelot, Janet Amedee and Ann McGowen; a brother, Jimmy Smith; grandchildren, Taylor, David, Blake and Eric Smith, Jesse Fowler, Andrew Thomas, Chad Usey, Lisa Lapeyrouse, Melissa Louque, Emily Altazin, Ryan Smith, Audrey Denise Smith, Angela Dunn and special caregiver, Kisha Dunn; and 10 great-grandchildren. A resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Lakewood Quarters Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94 and a native of Gonzales. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Waguespack Jr., Edgar Joseph "E.J."
A retired sugar-cane and rice farmer and a resident of Gonzales, he died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008. He was 87, born in Burnside on Aug. 13, 1920. After his retirement, he was a mechanic for the Pontchartrain Levee District. Mr. Waguespack was a member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales, a member of the American Legion Post 0159, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, for which he was a Purple Heart recipient.
