Ascension Parish resident Melanie Moran announced her candidacy this week for the Justice of the Peace 2nd Justice Court with the following statement.
“Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Melanie Moran and I’m running for Justice of the Peace 2nd Justice Court of Ascension Parish, the seat recently vacated by Dean Smith,” she said.
“I’m married to Ricky Moran Sr., and we have two children, Jenifer Moran Petrolia (married to Troy Petrolia Jr.) and Ricky Moran Jr. (married to Alicia Stephens) and four grandchildren, Chris, Jesse, Jase, and Emily. We moved back to Ascension Parish in 1988 when my husband finished his last tour of duty in the Army and have now here for 21 years.”
“I was born and raised in Baton Rouge and graduated from Tara High School in 1981. I have been a member in good standing of Galvez-Lake Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years, and have held the offices of reporter, secretary, and treasurer, and am currently a member of the Ascension Parish Mutual Aid Association.”
“During the recent hurricanes, I worked with the Ascension Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness as a volunteer doing radio communications as an Amateur Radio Operator, which I have been since the age of 13. I have also been a Notary Public in and for Ascension Parish since 2001.
“Until recently I was employed by Kean’s Fine Dry Cleaning as the manager of the Siegen Lane store in Baton Rouge, but have worked in their Prairieville store, where I received my training.
After careful consideration and discussions with my family, I decided to leave my position there to concentrate on my campaign. If elected, I will be able to devote myself full time to being your Justice of the Peace for the 2nd Justice Court.”
“I will be a fair and impartial judge.”
The special election will be Saturday, Oct. 17.
