After eight seasons with the New England Patriots, former Donaldsonville High and LSU standout defensive lineman Jarvis Green will suit up for the Denver Broncos.
An unrestricted free agent, Green will play in the 3-4 alignment that coach Josh McDaniels installed in Denver last year after leaving coach Bill Belichick’s Patriots staff.
Green tallied 47 tackles in 13 games last season. He started 12 games.
Green has amassed 325 tackles and 28 sacks in 121 games since the Patriots drafted him in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft.
During the eight-year stretch, Green and the Patriots were no strangers to playoff games and Super Bowl appearances. Green had 36 tackles and five sacks in 15 playoff games.
A two-time Super Bowl champion, the 31-year-old defensive end had his best season in 2006 when he posted career-highs of 7 1/2 sacks and three forced fumbles in 16 games.
Green played most as Richard Seymour’s backup until 2009, when he took over the spot after Seymour was traded to Oakland.
“Jarvis has a great deal of experience playing in a 3-4 system and will bring veteran leadership to our team,” Denver Broncos General Manager Brian Xanders said. “We’re excited to add him to our roster.”
Green reportedly agreed to a four-year, $20 million contract with $7.5 million guaranteed over the first two seasons.
