BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State Police Troop A, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Ascension Parish Thursday, July 2, beginning at 8 p.m.
Troopers, deputies and wildlife agents will aggressively enforce the state’s DWI laws throughout the holiday weekend, according to State Police spokesperson Tpr. Russell Graham.
He said every year numerous people are killed or seriously injured because of impaired drivers, and sobriety checkpoints are effective enforcement tools because they serve as a deterrent to impaired driving.
Graham said not allowing impaired drivers to drive a vehicle or boat and reporting possible impaired drivers to local police can potentially save lives.
