BATON ROUGE – A Gonzales man died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night on Airline Highway near Hwy. 73 in Ascension Parish.

Henry Jackson, 70, was driving a 2005 Dodge Magnum at around 5:50 p.m. when he pulled from the shoulder of Airline Highway into the path of a southbound 2003 Peterbuilt, according to Louisiana State Police spokesperson Tpr. Russell Graham.

Lawrence Capers, 57, of Gonzales, who was driving the Peterbuilt, attempted to avoid the collision but struck the broadside of the Dodge as it pulled into the roadway, Graham said.

Jackson, who was unrestrained, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Capers was properly restrained and was not injured.

Troopers do not suspect alcohol use to have been a factor in the crash.
