An autopsy found that a bullet fired by Louis Scioneaux killed his stepson, Sheldon Brown, according to Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala.

Detectives have no plans to arrest Scioneaux, 61, based on evidence that he shot Brown in self defense, Bacala said.

Once the investigation is completed, the case will be forwarded to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for further review, the chief deputy said.

Brown, 24, died of a gunshot wound Saturday at around 2:30 p.m. at a house in the Lemannville area, just outside of Donaldsonville, according to deputies.

Authorities reported Scioneaux and Brown had been arguing prior to the shooting.

Investigators were told that Brown retrieved a rifle from his vehicle and other occupants in the home tried to calm him, Bacala said.

Scioneaux reportedly armed himself with a handgun after he realized Brown was armed, the chief deputy said.

Scioneaux told detectives that he fired a single shot toward Brown in self-defense, according to Bacala.
