Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson reminds residents that Sec. 9-21 of the City Code prohibits the sale, possession, use, distribution, transportation or discharge of pyrotechnics of any kind within the city limits.
Officers are authorized to seize and confiscate all pyrotechnics sold, exchanged or possessed in violation of the code, Jackson said.
Violations are punishable by a fine of not more than $500, or imprisonment not to exceed 60 days, or by both.
Due to the extreme heat and dry conditions and the statewide ban on burning, Jackson said the code will be strictly enforced.
