Five men have been arrested in connection with the triple murder that occurred on February 17, 2012 on Babin Rd. in Gonzales in which Irwin Marchand, Shirley Marchand, and Doug Dooley were killed.
Two more individuals have been arrested in connection with the brutal killings of Robert Irwin Marchand, Douglas Dooley, and Shirley Marchand.

The Ascension Parish community was once again faced with tragic news, as they learned of an accident in the St. Amant area of the parish.
It’s been a sad and difficult time for our community, as residents come to terms with hearing of the brutal attacks on three residents which have left two dead and one fighting for her life.
On February 15, State Police Patrol Troopers assigned to Troop A and Narcotics Troopers arrested Ashely Smith (B/M, age 34) of Gonzales following an investigation into a vehicle pursuit that occurred on the evening of February 12.

Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley has said that all victims were found with their throats slit, and that each showed signs of bodily harm. No forced entry was obvious at the property.
According to Sheriff Wiley, an entire safe containing four coin sets valued around $500,000 was taken from the marchand home.
Sheriff Wiley has also stated that the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office has received multiple citizen contacts regarding the double homicide. These calls were largely generated due to the gold and rare coins that were stolen. As to the case itself, we are currently following up on several leads and continue to interview any and all individuals who had remote contact with the victims. As a gesture of reassurance to our citizens and to increase officer presence and response time, extra and targeted patrols have been initiated and will continue for the foreseeable future.
