Volunteer Ascension’s 12th Annual School Tools Program and the Ascension Parish School Board are partnering with WBRZ’s “Stuff the Bus” project to collect school supplies for children in need.

The School Tools Program was developed to help the students who might otherwise go without basic school necessities.

All school supplies collected and “Stuffed on the Bus” on July 8 in Ascension Parish, will be added to Volunteer Ascension’s Annual School Tools Drive July 25 -26, and will be distributed throughout the Ascension Parish School system to children in need by Volunteer Ascension through the usual process.

For more information or to make a donation contact Volunteer Ascension at 225-644-7655.

To participate:

• Purchase school supplies.

• Bring to Office Depot and Raising Cane’s parking lot on Airline Highway in Gonzales and “Stuff the Bus.”

• Wednesday, July 8 between 6 a.m.-7 p.m.

Essentially, any basic school supply will help.

However, the program never gets enough of the more costly supplies such as: 1 and 2 inch binders, dry erase markers, and construction  paper and dividers.

The other more common supplies needed are: color pencils, markers, pocket folders, compass, protractor, rulers, wide ruled loose leaf paper, glue, index cards, black and white compositions, pencils/pens, scissors, and some book bags are needed.

The following supplies are not as needed: crayons, and notebooks because more teachers require binders, dividers and paper instead.
