The Ascension Parish School Board appointed three new assistant principals to their posts Tuesday night.
Accepting the appointments were: Lynn Hathaway at Ascension Alternative School in Darrow, Twana Hilton-Pitre at St. Amant Primary School and Kim Melancon at Donaldsonville High School.
In other matters, the board approved a new digital roadside sign for Donaldsonville High School.
Superintendent Donald Songy asked the board to add the item to the meeting’s agenda in order to get the sign in place prior to the start of the next school year.
Coca-Cola will donate the sign and the owner of the commercial property along Hwy. 1 where the sign will be placed has given permission for the sign, Songy said.
The board will pay for the sign installation, maintenance and utility costs, according to Songy.
The superintendent said the new sign will be “a real positive for the school.”
In another matter, the board voted to add to its next meeting’s agenda a request for permission to advertise for 27 full-size school buses for the next school year.
The new buses will replace older buses.
Last school year, the board replaced 23 buses.
The new buses will cost about $70,000 each.
The total cost of the new buses will be about $1.89 million.
In other business, board member John Murphy said the insurance committee decided to stay with the same three insurance providers, though there has been a “little increase from last year.”
In another matter, the board announced it will evaluate the superintendent.
Songy will send his goals to the board via e-mail for their review.
In other business, school officials met with Ascension Parish government representatives to discuss the parish’s master plan.
The officials exchanged information on long-term planning.
