SORRENTO – As River Parishes Community College celebrates its 10th anniversary with special events throughout the year, the college is also honoring members of the RPCC Foundation, and especially those who have served the school since its inception.

Seventeen people serve on the RPCC Foundation board, and ten of those members have been actively involved in RPCC activities since the school was founded.

“We are extremely fortunate to have this prestigious group of people who have blessed us with their time, their talents and their wisdom during this first decade of our institution,” said Dr. Joe Ben Welch, RPCC chancellor.

The RPCC board members who have served the school for 10 years are Leonard Alcorn, Paul Aucoin, Riley Boudreaux  Sr., Dwight Braud, Charles Freeburgh, Louis Joseph, Louis Lambert, Dub Noel, Shelby Robert, and Jeff Smith.

The 2009 Foundation Chairperson is Robert Burgess, President and COO  of EATEL. Sharon Kell, vice-president of Omni Bank, serves as Vice Chair, and Dub Noel, president of Whitney Bank, is the secretary/treasurer.

Other board members include Joe Cagnolatti, Warren Jones, Boo LeBlanc, Frank Marino and Gary Miller.

The River Parishes Community College Foundation enhances higher educational opportunities for students at RPCC by raising money to provide scholarships.

To increase these scholarship opportunities, members of the board are currently planning for the 2009 RPCC Foundation Golf Scramble.

The tournament will be held at the Lakes at Pelican Point on Monday, Sept. 28.
