BATON ROUGE – LSU officials announced Thursday that the Region VII and Louisiana state science and engineering fairs have been rescheduled on the LSU campus as originally planned.

Gavin Ahearne, a fifth grade student at Gonzales Primary, sold snacks and trinkets during recess Wednesday for the Haiti relief effort.

The Ascension Parish School Board voted Tuesday to accept the retirement of Superintendent Donald Songy, effective June 30.

The Ascension Parish School Board recognized the parish’s students of the year Tuesday night at East Ascension High School in Gonzales.

All Donaldsonville area public schools opened and resumed a normal schedule Wednesday, according to an Ascension Parish Schools spokesperson.

SORRENTO – It’s not too late to begin or continue a college education this semester.

The Ascension Alternative School campus went back to a normal schedule for all students Tuesday.

The campus was closed Monday.

Ascension Alternative School had to close Monday due to a temporary interruption in water service, according to Ascension Parish Schools officials.

Ascension Parish Public Schools, Faith Academy and Faith Academy Early Learning Center in Gonzales will be closed Friday, Jan. 8, due to weather.

Dressed in a Hawaian shirt and an orange hat, Julian Surla wandered the halls of Dutchtown High School the day of Homecoming. Accompanied by his guitar, Surla cranked out rock and blues tunes for the student masses. His goal was to fire up the students for the big football game, and he had all the talent and nerve needed to do the job. The only thing this modern-day minstrel lacked was a lute.

BATON ROUGE – The Ascension Parish school district placed in the top five in Louisiana for the highest total number of National Board Certified Teachers, according to state education officials.

DONALDSONVILLE – The Ascension Parish School Board elected its officers and appointed a new supervisor of child nutrition Tuesday night.

SORRENTO – In the past two and a half months, River Parishes Community College students have raised more than $1,600 and have coordinated donations for RPCC campus improvements and for children in River Parishes communities.
