The Ascension Parish Council designated June 28 as Alzheimer's Awareness Day in the parish.

Iva and Randy Tullier accepted a proclamation at a recent parish council meeting in Gonzales.

In other proclamations, the council declared June 18 as Mike Cohen Day in Ascension Parish. Cohen is retiring as general manager of BASF.

The council also honored Jambalaya Festival World Champion Byron Gautreau, 2009 Champ of Champs Jody Elisar and Dutchtown High School baseball coach Chris Schexnaydre, who was named the 2009 LSWA Class 5A coach of the year.
