At the October 18 Ascension Parish Council meeting, President Kenny Matassa proclaimed October 23, 2018 as NOVA Chemicals Geismar Day.
According to the proclamation, in 1968 the Geismar Olefins facility began its first ethylene production as Allied Chemical, and for the past fifty years has been a valued community partner and employer. In 2017 NOVA Chemicals acquired ownership interest in the facility, their first asset along the U.S. Gulf Coast, with a commitment to enhancing and growing the company's presence in the Louisiana region and at the Geismar facility.
NOVA Chemicals develops and manufactures chemicals and plastic resins that make everyday life healthier, easier and safer; they are a Responsible Care company, committed to sustainability in daily operations as well as future growth, and solidifies these ethics and principles in operation of their Geismar facility. NOVA’s team of about 130 employees (and an equal number of contractors employed at the site) have been and continue to be committed to community involvement, as well as to being socially responsible and engaged neighbors.
Congratulations to NOVA Chemicals Geismar for fifty years of operations in Ascension Parish!
