"We were given a grant from the American Cancer Society to put on an event that raises awareness for breast cancer."

Did you know a lack in exercise can increase your risk for breast cancer?

Although there is no definite way to prevent breast cancer, living a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of it. There are plenty of opportunities to exercise, too. Always be on the lookout for free pop-up classes offered by local fitness businesses in your area.

Care South Clinic of Donaldsonville offered a Fitness for Boobs event on October 13, and will be having their second event on October 18 from 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at 6955 Florida Blvd in Baton Rouge.

"We were given a grant from the American Cancer Society to put on an event that raises awareness for breast cancer," Kabrina Smith, the Chief of Quality Improvement and Performance of Care South, said.

Workouts at the event include JiggAerobics, Zumba with Tanya Chapman-Griffin, and Yoga with The Yoga Noir Project. Both events are free and open to the public, but you must be 16 years of age or older to participate in the exercises.

"Increasing the cancer screening rate in Donaldsonville is one of our main goals with this event. We hope to encourage our residents to be aware of their bodies and to take preventative measures," Smith said.

A representative from Susan G. Komen was at the event and was able to answer any concerns one may have about the processes involved in breast cancer screenings.

Free drinks, food, music, and some giveaway prizes are offered for the attendees. Be sure to make the last event this Thursday, and try to fight against cancer by getting some exercise!
