The Overseer Richard Rayborn, Sr. Scholarship Fund held its 3rd Annual Scholarship Award Banquet on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at The Christian Assembly Full Gospel Church where Dr. Richard Rayborn II is the pastor.

Eight Ascension Parish 2018 Graduating Seniors were recognized and awarded $1,000.00 for their pursuit of excellence in academics. The students honored are:

--Alexis DeShea Anderson, Dutchtown High School graduate accepted to Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana where she aspires to become Neonatal Nurse.

--Kyali Nicole Anderson, East Ascension High School graduate will attend Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana majoring in Biology and PreMed to pursue her dream of becoming a Pediatrician.

--Kailyn Marie Cooper, St. Amant High School graduate plans to attend Baton Rouge Community College to complete her undergraduate prerequisite courses and transfer to Southeastern Louisiana University Nursing School Program.

--Cameron Terrell Jones, Dutchtown High School graduate plans to attend River Parish Community College to receive an Associate Degree in Instrumentation. He also plans to pursue his dream of becoming an illustrator of books and comics.

--Lauren Elizabeth Michelli, East Ascension High School graduate will attend Mississippi College this fall majoring in Biology and PreMed to pursue a career in Ophthalmology.

--Miquel Joseph Miles, Jr., Donaldsonville High School graduate will attend Southern University this fall majoring in Agriculture Science Economics.

--Jessica Leontine Popularas, Dutchtown High School graduate will attend Louisiana State University majoring in Kinesiology focusing on Human Movement Science.

--Kiersten Janae’ Roberts, Dutchtown High School graduate will attend Xavier University of Louisiana in the fall majoring in History and PreMed.

Chief Murphy J. Paul, Jr., Baton Rouge Police Department Chief was the keynote speaker for the occasion. Chief Paul’s speech focused on three major points which lead to success. The first point was education. He emphasized the importance of education and how it will help you succeed.

The third point was 3 F’s: Faith and Family First. Lastly, he emphasized the importance of your faith in God. He also emphasized the importance of family. With Faith and Family First, an individual can conquer anything.

Dr. Richard Rayborn II, Pastor of The Christian Assembly Full Gospel Church in Gonzales – expressed how proud he is of the recipients and their academic achievements. He indicated he know they will be successful in their pursuit of excellence because they are putting God first in their lives.

He said, “The Richard Rayborn, Sr. Scholarship Fund name in honor of his father is a financial gift to encourage eight deserving graduating seniors in the Ascension Parish Community in their quest for excellence.”

The Banquet was enthusiastically attended with over 100 guests and well-wishers!
