American Legion Awards are given annually to outstanding cadets for general military and scholastic excellence.

Gautreau-Williams Post 81 of the American Legion is proud to announce its Junior ROTC awards for the 2017-2018 school year.

American Legion Awards are given annually to outstanding cadets for general military and scholastic excellence. The General Military Excellence Award is presented to a cadet that is in the top 25 percent of his or her class in academic subjects and JROTC subjects and has demonstrated outstanding qualities in military leadership, discipline, character, and citizenship.

The Scholastic Excellence Award is awarded to a cadet that is in the top 10 percent of his or her class in academic subjects, the top 25 percent of his or her class in JROTC subjects, has demonstrated qualities of leadership, and has actively participated in related student activities such as student organizations, constructive activities, or sports.

Both the Scholastic and Military Excellence awards consist of a bronze, silver or gold medal accompanied by a ribbon with a distinctive miniature attachment depicting the torch.

This year, cadets from St. Amant High and East Ascension High’s Navy JROTC were presented with medals and certificates to honor their achievements. The Scholastic Excellence awards were presented to: St. Amant Senior Alyssa Swindell (Gold); St. Amant Cadet Erica Blevins (Silver); EAHS Cadet Destiny Watson (Silver); St. Amant Cadet Beau Romero (Bronze); and EAHS Cadet Kittyanna Walker (Bronze).

The Military Excellence awards were presented to: St. Amant Senior Nicolas Donaldson (Gold); St. Amant Senior Dylan Perry (Silver); EAHS Cadet Baily LeBlanc (Silver); St. Amant Cadet Drake Miller (Bronze); and EAHS Cadet Martin Jimenez (Bronze).

The JROTC awards program is one of many community service programs the American Legion and Post 81 participates in. These programs are made available through donations to and fundraisers held by Gautreau-Williams Post 81 supporting our local veterans, their families, and the community.

Post 81 is now located at 12042 W. Main Street in Gonzales, La. Post meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Join us!
