Chief Deputy Bobby Webre confirmed this morning that the victim is deceased after reportedly succumbing to his injuries at an area hospital. The victim was later identified as 23-year-old Christopher Godeau of Gonzales.

Deputies at the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office are investigating an early morning shooting that left one man dead. The incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday morning at a mobile home near the corner of Black Bayou Road and Leblanc Road in Gonzales.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle after the shooting. The alleged shooter has been identified as 24-year-old Kirkpatrick Wayne Morrison of Gonzales. It's been reported the suspect fled in a vehicle and was later involved in a crash in Baton Rouge. Morrison is now in custody.
