Possibilities for the old International Paper Mill site were discussed at the last Optimist Club meeting with Kay King, president of Morehouse Economic Development Corporation, as guest speaker.
"Everyone wanted to know what was going on with the IP mill site," King said. "Right now we do not have a specific prospect that I am aware of, but we are encouraged. There are no restrictions on any kind of timber-related business moving in there, so that is encouraging. That means we can pursue timber-related business."
King also pointed out the great value AL&M Rail provides for the site.
"All inquiries we have had are looking for a place with a railway," she said. "That is our strongest point here. We have great rail connections.
"Everyone is interested in what is happening with the old mill site. The people who purchased it are all from this region and they truly want to develop it into something positive for the community."
The Optimist Club meets every Friday at Granny’s restaurant.
