The St. Amant Lady Gator basketball team made a nice second-half comeback on the road Thursday night to defeat St. Joseph's Academy and earn their third district victory of the season.

The St. Amant Lady Gator basketball team made a nice second-half comeback on the road Thursday night to defeat St. Joseph’s Academy and earn their third district victory of the season.

St. Amant came into the contest looking to bounce back after dropping two of their previous three games. One of those was an emphatic 58-37 loss to archrival East Ascension on Monday night.

After an exciting first quarter against St. Joseph’s, the Lady Gators found themselves down 17-16.

The game remained close for the rest of the half. St. Amant trailed 30-27 at the break.

The Lady Gators took control in the third quarter. Their offense exploded for 20 points as they gained a 47-42 lead heading into the fourth.

There, St. Amant was able to fend off a hard charge by St. Joseph’s and survive with a 64-61 victory.

In the win, the Lady Gators were led by Megan Melancon—who had a game-high 20 points. Kelsi Martine was close behind with 19. Her total included four 3-pointers.

Brooke Romano chipped in with 10 points.

The victory improved the Lady Gators’ District 5-5A record to 3-2. Their overall record went to 14-11.

Their next game will be a home district clash against a powerful McKinley squad next Thursday evening.
