The report adds that Chaney was traveling at a high rate of speed when his left rear tire failed, and he lost control of the vehicle.

The Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop A reports that 15-year-old Jessie Chaney of Denham Springs was killed in a car accident in Prairieville last night.

LSP reports, "Shortly after 1 a.m. on January 6, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 10 westbound west of LA 73 in Ascension Parish.

"The initial investigation by LSP revealed that the crash occurred as Chaney was traveling westbound on I-10 in a 2004 Infiniti G35."

The report adds that Chaney was traveling at a high rate of speed when his left rear tire failed, and he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Additionally, one of Chaney’s passengers was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle.

Chaney sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. A total of four passengers were in the vehicle. They are being treated for moderate to serious injuries, according to LSP.

The report adds that not all crashes are survivable, but statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained.
