The opening has been in the works for two years, as they took their time finding the perfect location for the new lunch destination.

Gonzales residents will have another lunch option in 2018, as Which Wich Superior Sandwiches is set to open in January on Cabela’s Parkway off Highway 30. The franchise offers close to 40 sandwich varieties that customers can customize any way they want with 70 toppings.

Franchise partners Shane and Kelly Waguespack are excited to bring this new concept to the people of Gonzales.

Shane Waguespack said he tried his first Which Wich in North Carolina while traveling for work. After trying the sandwich with endless options, he knew he had to bring this brand back home. He added that he and his wife have always wanted to open their own business.

“Their motto is Superior Sandwiches, and it is. It’s highly customizable, and you can make any sub into a salad so there’s that healthy food option too,” said Waguespack.

The opening has been in the works for two years, as they took their time finding the perfect location for the new lunch destination. The real estate piece, he said, is the most difficult. They wanted to find the perfect spot to make the location a success.

Waguespack worked with Which Wich real estate director Dustin Griffiths to find the best place in town for the store. Griffiths said the new location is a central spot with heavy lunchtime traffic. He added its proximity to both Highway 30 and Interstate 10 makes it the perfect spot with easy access for customers.

The Dallas-based sandwich brand has been in operation for 14 years with roughly 430 locations in 39 states and 12 countries. Griffiths said while this is the first Gonzales location, it’s the fourth to open in the Greater Baton Rouge Area. It also won’t be the last. The Waguespack’s have plans to open another location soon in Prairieville.

“Future development is on their mind, and we feel like the market could support it,” said Griffiths. “We’re really excited to join the Gonzales community.”

With this new food option for consumers also comes new job opportunities for workers. Waguespack said the Gonzales location will create 25 jobs in the city, with the future Prairieville location adding 25 more down the road. He noted Which Wich offers a great working environment for employees.

If all goes according to plan, the new Which Wich is set to open in Gonzales on January 22.
