How does one continue to grow when achieving? This happens when we challenge our students and engage them in learning. With my grant, I have purchased Albert.io licenses for students to improve their AP test scores and ACT scores. We have also used it for PSAT review.

Through my grant, I worked to assign students work on AP courses that they needed assistance as well as the topic on the ACT/PSAT they felt they needed to improve. Through the review the program provides, students get detailed descriptions when they miss a problem, and sometimes it provides a helpful video. One of my students, Courtney Connelly, states, “It is an important instrument in helping me improve my ACT score and preparing for AP tests.” Another student, Logan Pontillas, “My ACT went up 2 points and my science score went up 7.” The program allows me to analyze if my students are proficient and where they can improve. Students also have the opportunity to use the program at home, which is a great asset.

Funds for this grant were provided by the Claire Carline Memorial. The Ascension Fund is a non-profit organization established in 1991 by the Gonzales Rotary club as an instrument for private sector leaders to invest directly in the work of individual teachers and schools through grants for innovative ideas and programs in Ascension Parish public schools. Teacher Grants of $500 or $1000 and School Impact Grants of $2,500 are awarded on an annual competitive basis. To date, the Ascension Fund has awarded approximately 1,200 grants representing over $1.4 million dollars in the school system. For more information, visit www.ascensionfund.com.
