Storefronts along Railroad Avenue were decorated with Christmas trees, garland and wreaths. Vendors offering everything from light up toys to homemade snacks were set up under tents along the roadside.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Donaldsonville! Residents celebrated the onset of the holidays season at the Sunshine Festival over the weekend. The Avenue Stroll on Saturday night featured a variety of holiday festivities to get residents in the Christmas spirit.
Storefronts along Railroad Avenue were decorated with Christmas trees, garland and wreaths. Vendors offering everything from light up toys to homemade snacks were set up under tents along the roadside. Santa paraded down the street atop a fire truck, hopping down to greet children and take photos along the way. A trolley made its way up and down the avenue all night long.
Lil Wayne & the Same Ole 2 Step performed in Louisiana Square. The zydeco band had festival attendees rocking and rolling throughout the eveing.The winners of the Little and Teen Miss Sunshine pageant were announced in the square, as the girls graciously accepted their crowns. Crowds cheered as each winner strutted across the stage.
There was even snow at the festival courtesy of sno cone stands set up along the street. The winter wonderland was warm as temperatures topped the upper 70s. The sound of Christmas carols filled the air, along with the smell of kettle corn and other treats.
The Donaldsonville Fire Department set up a winter wonderland in Louisiana Square. Lighted figures of Santa, snowmen, and a nativity scene lit up the square at the festival. The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council offered free cookies and a coloring station for children outside City Hall.
