Gonzales Healthcare Center was turned into a sea of blue and white last Friday, July 28, in celebration of Luci Butler's 100th birthday. Family, friends, staff and other residents gathered to celebrate the special occasion with music, cake and a balloon artist.

Butler, a native of Paincourtville, has been a tenant of the nursing home for the past several years. Gonzales Healthcare Center Marketing Director Jennifer Bercegeay said she had been patiently waiting since last year to celebrate her milestone birthday.

"She's a very sweet, loving resident, everybody adores her," she said. "She's been looking forward to her 100th birthday since last year when we had another resident turn 100. She wanted that tiara so we made sure she had a tiara."

Also participating in the festivities was Gonzales Councilman Tyler Turner. Turner presented Butler with a certificate of recognition for her 100th birthday and bestowed her with a Key to the City on behalf of the City of Gonzales.

"Ms. Lucy, even though we are not supposed to play favorites, is probably one of my most favorite residents," Gonzales Healthcare Center Administer Keith Cooper. "She is a complete sweetheart who commands a lot of attention at the back table, keeps all my men in line."
