Recently, the Baton Rouge area All-Metro teams were released for several high-school sports. Two of these sports included basketball and wrestling.

These teams contained many names from Ascension Parish.

For the boy's basketball All-Metro squad, there was only one parish standout that made the cut. That was East Ascension senior Le'Aaron Cain.

Cain has been the Spartans' leading scorer for the past two seasons.

In 2016-17, he averaged 19 points, five rebounds and two assists per game as he helped lead East Ascension to a district championship and the No. 1 seeding for the Class 5A playoffs.

Cain was also named the District 5-5A MVP, and for the second straight season, he was named the Parish MVP.

Also for East Ascension, Alynzia Morris made the All-Metro girl's basketball team as she averaged 13 points, six rebounds and three assists per game.

Morris was one of the driving forces behind a Lady Spartan team that closed out the regular season on a 22-game winning streak and entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in 5A.

Like Cain, Morris was named District 5-5A MVP and Parish MVP.

Also making the team was Ascension Christian's Jamilyn Robinson. Robinson averaged 23 points and eight rebounds per contest this past season.

In doing so, she helped lead the Lady Lions to their first playoff victory in school history.

Robinson was a first-team all-district selection, and she was honorable mention All-State.

Ascension athletes were much more prominent on the All-Metro wrestling squad. Nine of them made the team.

Headlining the group was St. Amant's Sage Nugent--who was named the Division-I Outstanding Wrestler.

Nugent finished up a superb career that culminated in two city championships. This past season, he went 48-3 and won the state title at 182.

Joining him on the first team were two teammates in Cameron Hyde and Hunter Hawkins.

Hyde was the city runner-up at 152 and finished the season with a 42-7 record, while Hawkins won the city title at 160 and placed third in the state. He finished the year at 51-11.

The final parish wrestler to make the All-Metro first team was East Ascension's Jordan Campbell. Campbell won the 285-pound city title and finished the year with a 42-14 record.

Five Ascension wrestlers made the second team.

St. Amant's Tyler Morris made it at 113 (52-13), Brier Babin made it at 126 (46-11) and Joshua Wright made it at 138 (33-12).

For East Ascension, freshman Trent Mahoney made the second team at 132 pounds (57-15) and Kyle Chapman made it at 160 (32-23).
