St. Amant High School (STA) will begin releasing students at 4:07 p.m. today due to winter weather predicted for Ascension Parish this evening. Exit logistics will be staggered for car riders, student drivers and bus riders. Detailed times will be communicated to parents by Principal Mia Edwards via school messenger and the school app. All other Ascension Public Schools are operating on a normal schedule.

"The National Weather Service in New Orleans predicts a hard freeze in our area starting at midnight, but a winter mix of sleet may be seen in areas North of Ascension Parish late this afternoon. Due to its platooning schedule, STA's normal release time is 5:15 p.m., which puts students on the road after dark. Although hazardous driving conditions are not predicted in our area until this evening, we are sending students home early out of an abundance of caution. This decision was made in consultation with emergency officials," said Ascension Public Schools Superintendent David Alexander.

All official decisions about school closures are posted on our website, www.apsb.org.
