The people leaving the River Region Art Association’s (RRAA) Art Depot Gallery last Saturday wore big smiles and were proudly carrying holiday ornaments and decorations, which they had just made at RRAA’s first Make-It and Take-It community outreach day.

Children showed off origami angels and foam-core tree ornaments they had brightly decorated, while the grownups seemed just as pleased with the festive looking reindeer and Santa's they had made from dried gourds furnished by RRAA member Carolyn Bowman.

To add to the holiday festivities, members of RRAA served hot chocolate and cookies and made sure everyone received a door prize as they left. RRAA members who participated were Betty Marks, Carolyn Bowman, Yvonne Bayham, Benita Swanson and John Robbins.

Peg Carbo, President of RRAA, explained that the public had been invited to participate in a special holiday crafts event where at no charge and with the help of member artists they could make their own holiday mementos. River Region Art Association has been in Ascension Parish for over 20 years and is supported by the City of Gonzales, the Greater Baton Rouge Arts Council, Houmas House Plantation and donations from its members and the public.

Membership in the association is open to the public. For more information call Peg Carbo at (225) 315-7109 or John Robbins (619) 540-7857 or visit riverregionartassociation.org.
