On Saturday, Oct. 1, the Canary Islanders Heritage Society of Louisiana held a celebration of the 20th Anniversary of their founding and the 238th Anniversary of the arrival of Canary Island settlers in Louisiana. Those in attendance at the Capital Park Museum in Baton Rouge enjoyed a presentation detailing the challenges faced by these settlers as well as many exhibits including an extensive photo collection, examples of Tenerife Lace, original Militia rosters, 1778-1781 passenger lists, military weapons and period uniforms.
