Swamp Pop Music Festival cooks meet July 6

Jambalaya chefs across Louisiana are invited to participate in the 11th Annual Jambalaya Cooking Contest July 17-18 during the 12th Annual Deep South Crane & Rigging Swamp Pop Music Festival at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
A cook’s meeting for interested teams will be held Monday, July 6, at 6 p.m. at the expo center’s Big Sky Café. 
The two-day cook-off benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Jambalaya will be judged based on appearance, rice texture, meat texture and overall taste. The $150 entry fee provides each team of two with pork, onions, rice, sausage and cooking oil. All participating teams will receive four weekend passes to the festival and are competing for great prizes.

NSJ schedules Vacation Bible School

Pastor Clarence Stephens and the New St. John Fellowship has scheduled its Vacation Bible School during the week of July 6-10 from 5-7 p.m. at the church sanctuary located at 1615 North Toby Ave., Gonzales. NHIFWC to host summer revivial and ‘Coffee with the Pastor’

New Hope International Family Worship Center, Dr. Claudette Aubert, pastor, will host Summer Revival 2009 from July 8-10 at 7 p.m. each night.  Speakers include Elder Clyde Cooper, Apostle Rachel Amimo of Kenya and Pastors Eunice and Eric Rush of Wiggins, Miss. First United Methodist Church to host VBS

First United Methodist Church, 224 W. Constitution St. Gonzales, invites children and adults to its Vacation Bible School titled “Crocodile Dock:  Where Fearless Kids Shine God’s Light” July 13-17 from 6-8:30 p.m.  Kids will jump into bayou fun where they participate in memorable Bible learning activities: Sing and Play Swamp Stomp to sing catchy songs, experience electrifying Bible adventures in Bible Bayou, create Bible Point crafts they’ll take home from Crawfish Crafts, Mission Projects, Dockside Drive-In to collect Bible Memory Buddies and remind them of God’s word, Snack Shack to dig into yummy meals and closing with Firefly Finale to get everyone involved in reliving what they’ve learned.

Reine Benefit July 11

A benefit for the late Jody M. Reine will be held Saturday, July 11 at the Cottage Inn on Hwy. 73. The benefit is being held to help with funeral expenses.
The music starts at 2 p.m. featuring B.J.  & The Country Cousins. The event will also feature jambalaya plates for $6, a 50/50 raffle, and a raffle for gift certificates from local businesses.

Tickets on sale for ‘Salute to Musical Theatre’

Tickets are currently available for Center Stage’s summer musical, ‘Before and Beyond: A Salute to Musical Theatre.’ 
The cast will perform songs from classic Broadway shows such as Annie, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, Oklahoma and Crazy for You.
Act 2’s glimpse of Center Stage’s future will feature numbers from current Broadway shows such as Legally Blonde, Hairspray, Wicked, Shrek and more.
Performances at Dutchtown High School are set for July 9-12, 16-19.
