SORRENTO – The Town Council completed its overhaul of the town book of ordinances with final adoption at a special meeting Tuesday.
The meeting was the last official business for outgoing Mayor Brenda Melancon, and outgoing council members Troy Braud, Edwin Pezant and Randy Anny.
Braud, Pezant and Melancon did not run for reelection, and Anny was unsuccessful in a run for the mayor’s seat won by Blake LeBlanc.
Included in the new book of ordinances is a section pertaining to sexual harassment of town employees.
The code book previously had no policy or guidelines regarding sexual harassment.
Long-time town attorney Greg Lambert rewrote and updated the town codes with input from the mayor and council and citizens in a series of public hearings.
Lambert this week resigned his position, and the town is expected to appoint a new attorney its July 7 meeting.
The new mayor and council members will also be sworn in at that time.
