Three persons from St. Amant were arrested in a Sorrento bar July 1 by parish authorities who executed a search warrant following a narcotics investigation.

Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said detectives seized approximately five pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a drug scale at the home of Kevin Villar, 52, prior to the arrests.

Villar and his girlfriend Della Phillips were not at the residence at 10068 Hwy. 936 at the time, but were later located at Fisherman’s Wharf Bar on Hwy. 22 in Sorrento, Bacala said.

Both suspects were then placed under arrest, and Villar was found to be in possession of a bag of marijuana, Bacala said. Detectives found Phillips in possession of hydrocodone pills at the time, according to the chief deputy.

During the Villar and Phillips arrests, a third patron of Fisherman’s Wharf was found in possession of a large bag of marijuana and also placed under arrest, Bacala said.

Villar was charged with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Phillips was charged with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of Schedule II CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Don Hutchinson, 47, of 101260 Matherne Road, was charged with possession of marijuana.

The suspects were all incarcerated with no bond set as of press time Thursday night.
