Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a bus driver and issued citations to 24 teens Saturday night after a “Boogie Bus” transporting them to the St. Amant High School homecoming dance was found stocked with alcoholic beverages.
According to Sheriff Jeff Wiley, the Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous call that alcohol was being consumed on the bus and when it arrived at the school, deputies and school administrators entered the bus and found a large quantity of alcohol on board.
It was apparent that the teenagers had been drinking and immediate action was taken, Wiley said.
The bus driver was charged with contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
Rodric Neff, 35, of 1002 Sherron Ave., Baker, was released Oct. 4 on a 236.50 cash bond.
Each of the teens, all but three of which are current St. Amant students, were issued a citation for possession of alcoholic beverages by persons under 21.
Their parents were called to the school and they were released to the parents, Wiley said.
An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office is ongoing with the main focus being to identify where the alcohol was obtained by the youths, the sheriff said.
A 16 year-old was cited, but not identified because of age.
Boogie Bus is a party bus service in the greater Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette areas. Each bus is decorated in a disco-like environment with lights, sound and amenities.
