"Shortly after 3:00 am on Sunday, February 16, 2014, a State Trooper stopped a Chrysler 200 on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation. The driver of the Chrysler was an active duty US Army Sergeant wearing full military fatigues. After speaking with the driver (30 year old Sgt. Horace Brown of Cantonment, FL) Troopers became suspicious and asked for permission to search the vehicle. Upon obtaining consent, Troopers discovered approximately 23 pounds of marijuana hidden in a duffle bag. Sgt. Brown stated that he was traveling from Fort Polk to Fort Bragg, NC.
Sgt. Brown was arrested and charged with LRS 32:79 (Improper lane usage) and LRS 40:966 (Possession with attempt to distribute Schedule 1 narcotics - marijuana). He was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish jail. US Army CID was contacted and informed of the arrest.
Louisiana State Troopers will continue provide the citizens of Louisiana a safer community through proactive drug related enforcement and cooperative efforts with local and federal law enforcement agencies. Troopers enforce all state and federal laws governing the illicit manufacturing, distribution, sale, and use of drugs targeting local and multi-state drug trafficking organizations."
