Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced Thursday the parish's engineering department has partnered with the Baton Rouge campus of ITT Technical Institute for the March 2013 quarter to provide students with real world experience working on a current parish project.
"This is a win-win situation for Ascension Parish and demonstrates our desire to reach out to future professionals entering the job market," said President Martinez.
The parish's engineering department recently hired an ITT graduate for a technical position providing CAD support for the department.
The students in the capstone course (final class of the curriculum) are gaining experience and putting their skills to the test working on a design solution for the Ascension Parish Department of Public Works west bank facility.
Michael Petty, senior project manager with the parish's engineering department, has provided the coordination between the parish and the school over the course of the quarter. Petty is also an adjunct instructor with ITT.
The students will be presenting their work at the Baton Rouge campus located at 14111 Airline Hwy., Suite 101 on Monday, June 3 at 6 p.m. The public, parish officials and employees are welcome to attend.
