Gautreau/Williams Post 81 will again sponsor a Veterans Appreciation Bingo Night Wednesday, June 5, at 6 p.m., at the Post Home on City Park Street in Gonzales. Veterans who attend this event will receive a free drink and a free item from the snack bar provided they bring some type of proof to show their veterans status (i.e., DD 214, drivers' license, or a veteran’s organization card). Veterans bring your family and friends and enjoy a night out with your fellow veteran. This event is also open to the public.

At last months meeting new officers were elected for the coming fiscal yea. The following members were elected: Steven Henry-Commander, Willie Wyble-Vice Commander; David Grenfell-Adjutant; Jerome Duplessis-Post Historian and Chaplin; Chris Blanchard-Finance Officer; Lawrence Bell-Judge Advocate; and Michael Blalock-Sgt, At-Arms. Executive Committee members are: Wayne Blanchard and George Bonfani. Steven Henry was also appointed as Service Officer for the Post as he is also the Parish VA Representative. Jerome Duplessis was also appointed as the Chairman of the Americanism Committee.

The 50 week raffle fund raiser to benefit the proposed new street sign is well underway and ticket sales are climbing. This is a 50 week raffle with a new drawing each week; that’s 50 chances to WIN and your ticket stays in the drawing for all 50 weeks; you can win more than once. Prizes are your choice of a $500 gift card to Cabela’s, Lowes, Wal-Mart or Home Depot. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold at $50 each, so get yours now before they are all sold. The outdoor Veteran’s Memorial project is nearing completion and should be ready for dedication soon. If you haven’t seen this project, take a ride by the Post Home and view it.

Cub Scout Pack 399, sponsored by Post 81, placed American flags on veterans' graves in the local cemeteries for Memorial Day. Post 81 purchased 3 gross of flags for this project.

Post 81 now has a website for members and the public to learn about Post events, meetings and information about on the Post. The website is www.legion81.org. More information will be added to the site as members build it. Check it out.

The next regular meeting will be June 6, at 6:30 p.m. Oak Lane Memorial Park will be sponsoring the meal for this meeting. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting, enjoy the meal and meet your new officers for the coming year.
