Two local brothers, anxious for Kidz Kove Discovery Park to become a reality soon, recently used their equipment and time to help the project along. Randy and Van Lambert cleared and spread dirt, working many hours to fill in large holes made by the removal of the unsafe trees on the site. As the land has to be built up and worked for the correct drainage, the Lambert brothers knew this was an area they could be of help.
"We cannot thank volunteers like Randy and Van enough for their help," stated a representative with Project Kidz Kove. "This is irreplaceable time and effort donated to us that saves valuable dollars toward the completion of this park."
Currently the Board of Project Kidz Kove is waiting on finalized survey and topography information (donated by T. Baker Smith) to wrap up the finishing touches on construction documents. Once these documents are obtained (care of Michael Buturla of Domain Designs, and Wes Wilkerson and Mark Boudreaux from Benchmark), the group will be able to work toward estimates/in-kind on concrete, asphalt and other building materials.
According to Mark Maher of Glenn Shaheen and Associates Engineering (who is donating his time as Project Manager), thanks to the efforts of volunteers like the Lambert brothers, and once all necessary funding is available, the building of Kidz Kove Discovery Park can commence.
Established in 2010, Project Kidz Kove is a not-for-profit organization in Ascension Parish, whose purpose is to raise funds to construct a playground for children of all abilities. The park will focus on additional equipment for children with physical or sensory developmental challenges with specialized equipment to facilitate their play experiences.
Acreage for Kidz Kove Discovery Park was dedicated by the City of Gonzales, and once completed will be maintained by the City's department of recreation.
