  • Swamp Pop recording artist Roland Doucet will lead the annual Jambalaya Festival Association (JFA) Christmas Parade as its grand marshal.
The JFA Christmas Parade is scheduled for Sunday, Dec, 9, in beginning at 2 p.m. It is expected to draw residents, family and friends from Ascension Parish and surrounding communities.
The parade route begins at East Ascension High School on Worthy St., turns north on Burnside Ave., and then ends at Galleries Gonzales Shopping Center. Musical entries, dance and cheerleading squads, and local dignitaries are a regular tradition in this hometown parade.
"JFA is honored to be able to host the parade this year, as well as EATEL, as they are the corporate sponsor," said Fran Baker, JFA Christmas Parade Chairman.
In a released statement, Baker thanked the Gonzales Police Department, The City of Gonzales, the Ascension Sheriff's Office and the Ascension Radio Club.
"Our strong partnership with these entities allows the parade to grow while maintaining the safe, family feel that we strive for year after year.
Tammy Guillory, JFA vice president, said last year there were nearly 100 entries in the parade.
"Schools get involved, new businesses, churches, banks and chemical plants," she said.
Guillory said she enjoys getting involved as one of the organizers.
"It's a lot of work, but worth every minute of it," she said. "Anybody can join the Association, it's free and we could use the help."
