  • The Gonzales Police Department is offering an Equalizer Women’s self defense course. 

     

    Classes are open to women over the age of 13 with separate classes and times for senior citizens.  

     

    The course will focus on the following areas: Facts about violence against women, reducing the risk of becoming a victim, defensive striking, common grab defense, head-lock defense, bear-hug defense, striking and knife defense, and group escapes. 

     

    The course is divided into four (4) sessions, increasing in physicality.  Participants should come dressed in comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for physical activity.  

     

    Sessions 1 and 2 will be held on March 14th and 15th at the Gonzales Civic Center (Irma Blvd.)

    Senior Citizens Class: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm; All Other: 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

    Sessions 3 and 4 will be held on March 20th and 21st at the Gonzales Public Safety Center (Orice Roth Rd)

    Senior Citizens Class: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm; All Other: 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

     

    Participants must attend all 4 sessions to receive certificate. 

    Class size is limited.  To register for classes please call Chief Jackson’s Secretary at (225)647-9543.

     

    It is the mission of the Gonzales Police Deaprtment to provide an effective and practical self-defense training curriculum for the women in our community.
