The Hope Youth Development flag football league held a raffle and raised more than $300 recently.
On Super Sunday, the raffle was awarded to Quinndarius Dabney. Dabney plays on the Donaldsonville Gold 5-7 year old team. He won a signed NFL football by three New Orleans Saints players, a Saints flag, and a football bubble 90m machines. He and his mom were very excited, said Hope Youth Development Coordinator Mark Peters.
More than 100 kids combined participated in the league this year under the direction of Hope Youth Development.
Shawn Nelson of the Buffalo Bills NFL team visited on Super Sunday to talk to kids and sign autographs for them. Nelson played football at East Ascension High and Southern Miss before entering the NFL.
The Gonzales Saints Youth Football team played against Donaldsonville Youth Flag football team to show off their skills against each other. All kids received trophies, certificates, and McDonalds cookies for being good sports. The players were able to keep their flags.
“This year was awesome working with both sets of kids,” Peters said.
Super Sunday marked the end of the five-week summer program.
