  • Ascension Parish students of the year honored

  • The Ascension Parish School Board recognized the parish’s students of the year Tuesday night at East Ascension High School in Gonzales.

  • The Ascension Parish School Board recognized the parish’s students of the year Tuesday night at East Ascension High School in Gonzales.
    A student from each school was selected. One student from each of the three grade levels – primary, middle and high – were then chosen to represent the parish.
    The 5th grade level winners were: Alexa Rae Burns, Madeline Claire McCoy, Nicole Marie LeJeune, Madison Nicole Bolling, Emilee Ann Villar, Gavin Vernon Ahearne, Jaime Lynn Keller, Madison Leigh Anderson, Tyerah Trashelle Sullivan, Madison Brooke Gaines, Emily Isabel Galindo, Kaylie Ranae Kirk, Allison Huynh Redlich and Chrystal Mensah-Wiredu.
    The 8th grade level winners were: Laura Lee Ann Hernandez, Kaitlyn Michelle Cayette, Hira Azeem Hasan, Christopher Patric Poore, Placid Chidozie Nwokorie Jr., William Ward Belleu III, Jeanne Elise Steyer and Mason Alexandra Westbrook.
    The 12th grade winners were Bre’yahna Krishone Williams, Caitlin Marie Ballotta, Jessica Nycole Gilbert and Rebecca Marie Harris.
    The overall student of the year winners were Ballotta, Belleu and Gaines.
    The board also honored the new National Board Certified Teachers. They were Mary Daze’, Patricia Desormeaux, Dawn Gasper, Melissa McCormick and Leslie Watson. The parish raised its total to 73 teachers.
