  • Dutchtown senior running back Eddie Lacy battled back from a knee injury early in the season that forced him to sit out two games to garner the District 6-5A Offensive MVP selected by coaches recently.

    A total of seven Ascension Parish athletes were named to the 6-5A first-team.

  • Dutchtown senior running back Eddie Lacy battled back from a knee injury early in the season that forced him to sit out two games to garner the District 6-5A Offensive MVP selected by coaches recently.
    A total of seven Ascension Parish athletes were named to the 6-5A first-team.
    Lacy was joined on offense by two teammates, senior guard John Lambert and senior tight end Colby Little. Dutchtown senior defensive lineman Richard Buckland, junior defensive back Eric Reid and senior punter Grant Auzene were  joined by East Ascension senior defensive back Matt Richard on the first-team defensive squad.
    Dutchtown, which advanced to the Class 5A regionals for the second consecutive season placed eight on the all-district second team - senior running back Kelvin York, sophomore running back Effrem Reed, senior offensive lineman Thomas Harvey, senior offensive lineman Shawn Cook, senior defensive lineman Grant Medine, senior defensive lineman Kendryck Johnson, senior linebacker Randy Thackery and junior defensive back Marcus Godfrey.
    East Ascension had six players made the all-district second team - senior offensive lineman Adam Thompson, senior kick returner Matt Richard, sophomore defensive lineman Wade Julien, senior defensive lineman Ryan Moll,  junior defensive lineman Q’Dareus Lomas and senior linebacker Trey Griggs.
    St. Amant also had six players selected to the second team - junior wide receiver Chase Keller, senior offensive lineman Jace Deslatte, junior kick returner Tre` Vaughn, junior defensive lineman Marvin Martin, senior linebacker Zach Whittington and sophomore punter Justin Manton.
    Dutchtown honorable mention selections were quarterback Wesley Perkins, wide receiver Cody Vicknair and defensive backs Jared Braud and Jonathan Darville.
    Honorable mention picks from St. Amant were defensive back P.J. Brown and kicker Colby Robert.
    Senior linebacker Rufus Porter of District 6-5A champion Destrehan was the Defensive MVP, while the Wildcats’ coach Stephen Robicheaux received Coach of the Year.
    Lacy carried 153 times for 1,046 yards and a team-high 17 touchdowns this season, while catching seven passes for 130 yards and one touchdown. He scored a career-night six touchdowns against Hahnville.
    Lambert, Little, Cook and Harvey paved the way for the Griffins to rush for 3,280 yards and 41 touchdowns. Little also caught five receptions for 64 yards. York led the Griffins with 1,227 rushing yards on 173 carries adding 12 touchdowns. Reed added 322 yards on 42 carries to go with two touchdowns and caught 13 receptions for 238 yards and two touchdowns.
    Buckland had 54 tackles, including eight for losses to go with three fumble recoveries and four pass breakups. Reid led the Griffins with four interceptions, while adding 53 tackles including three for losses, three fumble recoveries and six pass breakups. Auzene punted 28 times for 1,057 yards and a 37.8 yard average with a long of 61 yards. Medine had a team-high 12 tackles for loss, including three sacks among his 39 tackles and added one fumble recovery. Johnson led the Griffins with six sacks to go with 27 tackles, including for losses and one fumble recovery. Thackery had a team-high 64 tackles, including five for losses, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery. Godfrey had three interceptions, while making eight tackles, two for losses and recovering one fumble.
    Page 2 of 3 - Richard had 54 tackles for East Ascension, one for a loss and two interceptions. He also had 125 yards and one touchdowns on punt returns, 83 yards on kickoff returns and 128 yards receiving to go with two touchdowns. Julien led the Spartans with 64 tackles, including six for losses and had four sacks. Moll had a team-high 17 sacks to go with 32 tackles, which five were for losses. Lomas added 12 sacks to go with 39 tackles, six for losses. Griggs had 33 tackles, one for a loss and one interception. Thompson paved the way for the Spartans to rush for 1,187 yards.
    Keller caught a team-high 16 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns for St. Amant. Deslatte paved the way for the Gators to rush for 1,473 yards. Vaughn had 544 yards on 23 kickoff returns and 83 yards on 11 punt returns, while rushing for 388 yards and six touchdowns on 66 attempts. Martin had a team-high two sacks to go with 50 tackles, including three for losses. Whittington led the Gators with 60 tackles, including two for losses and also had one sack. Manton punted 50 times for 1,423 yards and a 28.5 yard average with a lone of 46 yards.
